Our interdisciplinary research institute has been working on sustainable economic and development issues since 1992 and is your partner in research and practice! Our work focuses on the following topics:

• Resilient and cost-optimized infrastructure
• Climate change, measures for climate protection and adaptation
• sustainable urban and regional development
In addition to application-oriented research, scientists from different disciplines are involved in the development and implementation of practical solutions / services at IUWA.
In the scientific field, we work with our partners primarily in national and international research projects. In addition, we develop new methods and instruments or conduct potential and feasibility studies, scientific studies and expert reports as well as a wide variety of surveys.
In the practice area we offer a wide range of individual solutions and services. For companies, we offer the focus on resource management and material flow and energy management as well as operational environmental and sustainability management (including all legal requirements and implementation of ISO standards etc.).
In cooperation with IUWA GmbH, we also offer related qualifications and practical training on site as well as our own IT tools (waste manager). On request, we also carry out a more extensive innovation management on site to jointly explore and design larger change processes in the company.
We offer new solutions for public institutions and cities / municipalities that contribute to the success of sustainable development and meet the current challenges. For example, the design of an adaptable, sustainable infrastructure, the design of adequate services of general interest, the activation of civil society and civic engagement as well as the implementation of resilient and sustainable urban and regional development.
With our diverse contacts to science, business, politics and civil society, we are happy to support our partners in inter-organizational dialogue and networking.
